Yes. We offer a comprehensive online ELDT Theory Course that you can complete at your own pace from any device. Once finished, we automatically upload your results to the Federal Training Provider Registry (TPR), which is a mandatory prerequisite before you can take your NYS CDL road test. At Dutchess School of Driving, we believe in training on modern, industry-standard equipment. You will train in late-model day cab tractors, box trucks with easy-to-learn 6-speed transmissions. We also offer automatic tractors and dump trucks for those looking to bypass manual shifting restrictions, along with standard dry van trailers.

We accept several funding sources, including WIOA (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act) through the Dutchess One-Stop Career Center. Eligible students making less than a certain hourly wage or those currently unemployed may qualify for grants up to $5,000 to cover the cost of their CDL training.

The Class B to A Upgrade is specifically for current CDL B holders. It focuses on the specific skills needed for combination vehicles, such as coupling/uncoupling and handling tractor-trailers. This allows experienced drivers to level up their license in less time than a full beginner course

Yes. We understand many of our students work full-time, so we offer training 7 days a week. Our flexible scheduling allows you to book lessons between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, including Saturdays and Sundays at our Hopewell Junction range.

Yes, we have bilingual instructors who provide CDL Class A training in both English and Spanish. This ensures that all students fully understand the complex safety regulations, pre-trip inspection points, and technical driving maneuvers required by the DMV.

Yes. Dutchess School of Driving is a fully registered training provider on the federal Training Provider Registry (TPR). This is a critical requirement under the Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) mandate. We handle the mandatory reporting of your theory and behind-the-wheel (BTW) hours directly to the FMCSA. Without this official registration, the NYS DMV will not allow you to sit for your CDL Class A or B road test.

Yes, we offer training and road test services in automatic transmission tractor-trailers. While this results in an "E" restriction (Manual Integrated Restriction) on your license, it is the fastest and most efficient way for many students to enter the industry, as the vast majority of modern fleets (like Amazon, UPS, and Walmart) now use automatic equipment. If you prefer to drive stick, we also offer manual transmission training to ensure you have no restrictions.

DID YOU KNOW?

Employment of heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers is projected to grow 6 percent from 2020 to 2030, about as fast as the average for all occupations.

About 231,100 openings for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

The median wage for Truck Drivers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer in New York State for May 2020 was over $26 per hour.

The Trucking Industry moves 70% of the nation’s freight, and employs approximately 1 out of every 9 workers in America.
